An Introduction
As indicated by the title, the intention of this post is to provide the essential background information about me. I promise to keep it short for two reasons: one, as I am only 22 years old, there is little to describe so far; and two, I am currently at work and am technically not allowed to be blogging. Oops.
My hometown, Beallsville, is a coal mining town located in southeastern Ohio near the Ohio River. With a population of only ~500, it provided a unique environment in which to grow up. I attended Beallsville High School where I graduated in 2005 and then enrolled at the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio (in northeast Ohio) the following fall. I majored in Biology and just recently graduated in May of 2009. During my time at Wooster, I applied for and received a Rotary Ambassador Scholarship through District 6650. At the end of August, I will be leaving for Kampala, Uganda to complete a research project at Makerere University’s School of Health Sciences for an academic year. This blog will follow my adventures and experiences that the next 9 months will throw my way. Upon my return, I will begin medical school at the Ohio State University which has graciously let me defer my acceptance for a year.

Jumping for joy at my graduation from the College of Wooster!
